Delta C News and Activities

• The launch Meeting with the Writing Group Members on the 20th of May at Marriott Hotel:

That was the first Meeting of the Delta –C Project, where Prof. M. Mohsen Ibrahim,Head of Egyptian Hypertension Society gives an overiew on the project rationale, goals and objectives and he explains the role of each member of the writing group.

Writing group members are classified into 3 groups:
Group A , responsible for assessment of CV risk and the underlying risk factors( diet, nutrition,physical activity,obesity and psychosocial factors)
Group B, will work on major risk factors( smoking, dyslipidemia,hypertension and diabetes)
Group C, will handle the emerging risk factors, preventive approaches and drugs for prevention.

The outcome of the 3 groups will be in a written document outlining guidelines for cardiovascular prevention in Egypt and developing countries.

• Meeting with the Writing Group and the Advisory Board Members on 10th of June at Intercontinental Heliopolis:

That was the first gathering of both the Writing Group and the Advisory Board Members, where Prof. M. Mohsen Ibrahim explained the important role of the Advisory Board in reviewing the completed chapters that are finalized by the Section editors.

• Meeting to discuss the Physician Education Program on the 7th of July at Marriott Hotel:

This program will include 2-days working seminars, lectures and workshops that tackles different ways of CV Risk assessment, Integration of preventive cardiology into clinical practice, Handling of preventive CV drug therapy and the most important, communication skills for doctors.

This program will be headed by Dr. Hussein Rizk ( Prof.of Cardiology, Cairo University)


• Meeting to discuss the Physician Knowledge Survey on the 26th of July at the Office of the Egyptian Hypertension Society:

In parallel with the preparation of the guidelines, A survey is designed to test the Egyptian physicians knowledge and attitudes regarding assessment of CV risk and applicability for prevention of atherosclerotic disease, the survey is in the form of written Questionnaire.
The meeting aims at finalizing the questionnaire , before presenting it to the physicians.

This survey is headed by Dr.Mahmoud Hassanein ( Prof. Of Cardiology, Alex University)


• Meeting with Dr. Larry Appel, Prof. Of Medicine, Epidemiology and Human Nuitrition, Johns Hopkins university on the 29th of July at Intercontinental Heliopolis:

The meeting includes press conference, to launch the project to most of the Medical Journalists and T.V channels.

It also discusses possible areas of collaboration between the Egyptian Hypertension Society and Johns Hopkins University and the possible future activities.
